As such, the newspaper adds that United want to release at least three of those players to free up wage bill room. Out of the five, though, Romero is the most likely to leave. The Argentine has not played a single minute for the Red Devils this season and is at the bottom of the pecking order. Grant, meanwhile, is the third-choice stopper, but his contract expires at the end of the season. Talk surfaced earlier this week that United could offer him a new deal with the pre-requisite of him joining the goalkeeping coaching ranks. But while the Manchester Evening News says that United will terminate the 38-year-old’s playing contract, the report does not add information about a potential move into coaching. Elsewhere, Joel Pereira is another goalkeeper who Old Trafford bosses feel keen to move on. The 24-year-old is at Huddersfield Town on his sixth loan spell since moving to United as a teenager in 2012. But the source notes that these spells away have proven ‘disastrous’; the former Portugal Under-21 international has only made one Championship appearance this term. Pereira moved up to the senior ranks in the summer of 2017, Paul Woolston, 22, one player taking his place since then. Woolston joined the Old Trafford reserve ranks in November 2018 and has played nine times this season. However, club chiefs see no long-term future past his contract expiration date of June this year.
