Leicester eyeing country’s top goalscorer to replace Jamie Vardy Leicester are considering a summer swoop on Championship side Brentford to land a goalscoring machine that could ultimately replace Jamie Vardy. Vardy, 34, has been a constant source of goals and a menace to defences since the Foxes won promotion in 2013. Despite his advanced years, Vardy remains as clinical as ever, and currently sits joint-sixth in the Premier League top goalscorers charts this season with 12. Time will ultimately catch up to the frontman however, and Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers will have to look elsewhere. According to the Mirror, Brentford could provide the solution through their red-hot striker Ivan Toney. Toney, 24, has blazed a trail in the Championship this season since signing for a bargain £5m fee last summer. The forward had a superb goalscoring ratio with Peterbrough in League One, but has since improved on that ratio in the higher tier. A whopping 24 goals and nine assists have been registered from just 31 games for Thomas Frank’s promotion-chasing side. Leicester have duly taken note, and the article claims they are ‘weighing up a summer move.’ Brentford have a recent history of selling talented strikers if promotion is not achieved. Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins both moved to top flight sides for big money after impressing with the Bees. As such, Brentford are described as being aware they ‘will face a battle to keep him’ this summer. That is on the proviso that they fall short of promotion once more.   Kelechi Iheanacho is already on the Foxes’ books, but has failed to set the world alight when handed opportunities. Toney could be the man to eventually take the mantle from Vardy. The article concluded he could be the Englishman’s ‘long-term replacement.’ Toney is not likely to come cheap with four years remaining on his current deal. Furthermore, interest from other sides is likely to be high, with Everton also reported to be in the mix.   Leicester scout perfect Tielemans partner Meanwhile, Leicester are ready to open talks over a huge summer deal to sign Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare, according to a trusted transfer source. Soumare was a top target for Newcastle in January 2020, with Steve Bruce admitting they had a plane booked for him before he changed his mind. The 21-year-old has continued his good form after that transfer fell through.  As such, he remains a target for a number of big clubs. As well as Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked. However, the France U21 international now looks poised to join the Foxes this summer.
