Chelsea legend John Terry believes Mason Mount will follow in his footsteps by going on to captain the club.
Mount came through the academy ranks at Chelsea and after spending a season under Frank Lampard on loan at Derby, got his chance when the former Blues midfielder took up the manager’s job at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard gave plenty of opportunities to Mount, who finished last season with seven goals and five assists from 37 Premier League appearances.
Such was Lampard’s faith in Mount, he faced accusations of favouritism towards the midfielder. However, the now-departed Chelsea boss regularly defended the 22-year-old.
Since Thomas Tuchel replaced Lampard as Chelsea manager, there have been concerns about how Mount will be affected. But the new boss seems to rate him highly too.
Therefore, it is likely the 13-cap international will continue to grow and establish himself as a key player.
Hopes are high for the youngster and Terry seems to match his former teammate Lampard in his faith in Mount.
Speaking via Instagram Live, the 40-year-old tipped Mount to go on to captain his club and country.
“Mason Mount is 100 per cent future Chelsea captain,” Terry said.
“He’s been the best player at Chelsea this season to be honest.
“He’s a great lad, trains unbelievably well, is Chelsea through and through and shows leadership qualities.
“In my mind he’ll be Chelsea and England captain.”
Mount has worn the captain’s armband for Chelsea before, doing so in Lampard’s last game in charge.

Mount does not deserve criticism
Terry’s former England centre-back partner Rio Ferdinand has also spoken about Mount’s potential recently.
The ex-Manchester United defender hit back at critics of the Chelsea man.
“I can’t believe he gets any stick,” Ferdinand told BT Sport of Mount last week.
“It baffles me, I don’t understand where all this comes from. I was lucky enough to go to the training ground and speak to him and I saw Frank as well and he was like, ‘this kid excites me’.
“He’s nowhere near the worst player at Chelsea. He’s created the most chances for them and been their most creative player this year, but still gets stick. It baffles me.”
