High-profile Arsenal quartet lead Edu clearout to raise transfer funds Arsenal technical director Edu plans to furnish manager Mikel Arteta with a bigger transfer pot this summer by offloading at least four big-name stars to help raise funds. The Gunners allowed a number of high-profile stars to move on in January as they cleared the deck. The likes of Mesut Ozil, Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Sead Kolasinac were all allowed to move on. However, the exodus will not stop there, with Edu also looking to offload at least two more as part of Arsenal’s rebuilding. According to The Sun, the Gunners also plan to let another four players move on this summer. As per the report, the two highest profile of these will be striker Alexandre Lacazette and defender David Luiz. Brazilian defender Luiz will be out of contract at the end of the season, with his deal not being extended. Lacazette, meanwhile, has lost his first-team spot, but would still likely command a transfer fee of around £25m. The Gunners also want to two loan stars to move on to generate further income in Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira. Guendouzi joined Hertha Berlin on a season’s loan over the summer after falling out with Mikel Arteta. While he has impressed in the Bundesliga, the paper claims there is no way back for him at the Emirates.  Arsenal are reported to be seeking around £25m for his services. Torreira, meanwhile, will likely generate slightly less after his indifferent spell with Atletico Madrid. Indeed, there were even theories going round over why he was being given a lack of game time by Diego Simeone at the Wanda Metropolitano. The report claims Arsenal hope to generate around £65m in sales by allowing the quartet to move on. However, the biggest save will come off their weekly wage bill. The Gunners, like so many other clubs, have seen their budget impacted by a lack of matchday revenue. Indeed, the January loan exits of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Kolasinac and Joe Willock saved the Gunners £16.5m in wages. Lacazette, for example, is on a package of £150,000 a week. And with Arteta preferring a front three of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bacary Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe, it seems Lacazette’s days are numbered. With less than 18 months left on his deal, the Gunners know the time to sell is now.
