Henderson slams Alisson errors that made mockery of display ‘more like’ Liverpool Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson insisted that errors including Alisson Becker’s two blunders made for an underserving scoreline against Manchester City. City had led 1-0 on Sunday thanks to Ilkay Gundogan’s goal, before Mohamed Salah equalised with a penalty. But Reds goalkeeper Alisson then had a nightmare three minutes. After Gundogan punished the Brazilian’s mislaid pass, he gave the ball away again and Raheem Sterling made it 3-1. Phil Foden then got in on the act himself after assisting Gundogan, with a powerful close-range effort. However, the two errors in quick succession proved more decisive for the hosts, whose title chances are effectively over. Speaking to reporters after the match, midfielder Henderson said that his side should not have lost 4-1. “Very disappointed with the result of course,” he said (via the Daily Express). “I don’t think the end result reflected the performance to be honest but we made mistakes and got punished. “We competed well. This was more like the performance we are used to, but like I say mistakes at the wrong moments cost us. “It is hard to take now, but in football you have to move on quickly. We need to use this week to prepare the best we can for a tough game with Leicester. “Yes the result is very disappointing when you look at the scoreline, but I felt large parts of the performance was more like us.” Liverpool remain fourth in the table on 40 points, despite a second defeat in a row. However, they may now be looking over their shoulders instead of chasing the teams above them. Henderson rebukes Liverpool change in stance Three successive wins have pushed Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea to within a point of the Reds in fifth. West Ham’s draw with Fulham, meanwhile, also moved them onto 39 points. What’s more, Everton sit three points behind but have two games in hand on the champions, including against City. But Henderson added that his teammates do not focus on their standing in the top flight. “I didn’t think we deserved to lose by that much but we made costly errors that cost us,” he said. “We don’t look at the league table, just concentrate on the next game and try and win every game we can whether you are on top or fourth or fifth.” Liverpool return to action on Saturday when they play Leicester at the King Power Stadium.
