Liverpool are looking to a former Man Utd forward to spruce up their attacking options, while Paul Pogba’s suitors continue to circle – both in the latest Euro Paper Talk.
REDS EYE FORMER MAN UTD FLOP
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has identified Lyon forward Memphis Depay as an ideal target to reinvigorate his front three, according to a report.
Klopp’s men have suffered a noticeable drop in intensity since Christmas, winning only two of nine Premier League games.
Such a run has seen the champions slip down the table, with the focus now firmly on maintaining their spot in the top four.
But while several factors have played their part in Liverpool‘s downturn, a lack of goals over recent weeks has played its part. Indeed, while Mohamed Salah has continued his good form, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have largely struggled.
Diogo Jota has yet to return from injury but, according to Don Balon, Klopp has his eyes on further reinforcements following the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
What’s more, he is targeting former Manchester United winger Depay, whose contract at Lyon runs out at the end of the season.
Barcelona have been linked with a swoop for the 26-year-old for some time, with ex-Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman a big admirer of his fellow countryman.
However, Liverpool are looking to ‘snatch’ the signing from under the Spanish giants’ noses by initiating contact in the coming weeks.
Depay would fit into the Reds’ remit for cheap signings, given that he would arrive on a free transfer. In fact, his wages would prove the only significant blockade to completing a deal after persuading the player.
