Manchester United and Manchester City are scrapping to sign a top defender, while Thomas Tuchel is eyeing a Chelsea swap with AC Milan – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.
MAN UTD, MAN CITY DEFENDER FIGHT
Manchester United are battling rivals Manchester City to sign Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, according to a report.
The Serbia international has reportedly entered the radar of Premier League clubs in recent months. Indeed, Tottenham supposedly have an interest amid their hunt for a new centre-back.
However, United have also weighed in, with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aware that a new talisman at the back will be crucial to his team’s long-term development, as per the Manchester Evening News.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), United’s interest has not waned, but rivals City have joined them in the hunt.
City manager Pep Guardiola sorted out his defence with the signing of Ruben Dias in the summer transfer window. What’s more, he brought in Nathan Ake from Bournemouth, but the Dutchman has struggled.
Nevertheless, Guardiola has his eyes on another big defensive swoop, with Milenkovic now a key target.
The Italian publication says that Fiorentina are ready to lose the defender for €35million (£30million).
But despite lingering uncertainty over his next destination, Gazzetta dello Sport states that, in any case, he will be playing in the Premier League next season.
Milenkovic, 23, moved to Italy from Partizan Belgrade in his home country in the summer of 2017.
Since, then he has racked up 119 appearances for Fiorentina, including 107 in Serie A.
