Chelsea join summer Sancho race as Dortmund’s position explained Reports in the German media claim Chelsea have joined the list of top clubs keen to sign Borussia Dortmund’s young winger Jadon Sancho. Sancho, 20, has been linked with a few big-name clubs, with both Manchester United and Manchester City said to be keen. United made several attempts to land the England man last summer but fell short of BVB’s valuation. The Germans wanted £108m for the talented forward but the Red Devils failed to come close to that number. It was reported that they made four separate bids but they all came after Dortmund’s cut-off date of August 10. The Old Trafford giants are still keen and have received a boost with the news that his price may have dropped. The Bundesliga outfit are said to need funds due to the pandemic and must sell a top star. That may be Sancho, or fellow starlet Erling Braut Haaland. City are admirers but now Chelsea’s name has been added to the list of those who may move in the summer. New Blues chief Thomas Tuchel will want to stamp his mark on the side. The chance of bringing in a talented youngster would do just that. He could then build his squad around the new man, with the aim of challenging the big boys. According to Sport1, the Stamford Bridge club may well join the bidding race at the end of the season. Money talks in football There is no question that Dortmund would want to keep a player of Sancho’s class. He has been a revelation since joining in August 2017. Capped 18 times by England, he has scored 42 goals from 124 appearances in all competitions. His form has dipped slightly this term, however. And the London-born ace admitted that the speculation linking him with United had affected his performances. It seems as though that interest will resurface in a few months’ time from many clubs. It has been reported that Dortmund’s financial deficit of around €75 million means they have to sell. But the arrival of a new head coach could also see signings and departures in the next window. Lucian Favre left in December, with Edin Terzic now in temporary charge. There is also the chance that BVB might miss out on Champions League football. That would put further pressure on them to sell their best stars before the start of next season.   READ MORE: Rio Ferdinand blasts critics of Chelsea star The post Chelsea join summer Sancho race as Dortmund’s position explained appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING
