Allardyce notes ‘sad thing’ about West Brom new boy despite great display Sam Allardyce was delighted with the impact of West Brom new boy Mbaye Diagne against Manchester United, despite admitting he could have had a hat-trick. Diagne scored his first West Brom goal less than two minutes into the game against United, which ended as a 1-1 draw. The Senegal international also had a couple of chances late on which could have secured a shock win for his side. However, the Baggies will have been content with taking a point off the title challengers, even if it does not help their battle against relegation much. Manager Allardyce knows his side could have even won the game had Diagne put his chances away. He was very impressed with the striker’s overall outing, though. Allardyce told BBC Sport: “We had enough chances to make it three points. “The sad thing is for me is Mbaye Diagne could have had a hat-trick. That would have been a great thing for him. “It was a super goal. He didn’t look the favourite. He missed easier chances than that today. We’ve got somebody in the box who can score us goals. “I’m pleased with the overall performance and tactics of the team. They didn’t let their heads down when United scored with their only shot on target in the first half. “In the last minute we needed our goalie to make sure we didn’t lose. We wouldn’t have deserved to lose. “When you get those opportunities [to attack] you have to maximise them. We did that but the chances we had, we didn’t finish more than one.” Subscribe for free to TEAMtalk’s daily newsletter… Signings can make a difference Diagne was not the only new boy on the pitch for Albion.
