Thomas Tuchel admits first Chelsea team selection was ‘unfair’ New Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admitted his first team selection at Stamford Bridge was “unfair”. Tuchel omitted Mason Mount from his Chelsea starting XI as the Blues hosted Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. Mount was a fixture under sacked Blues boss Frank Lampard, but was overlooked for German boss Tuchel’s match at the helm. In fact the youngster was made skipper in Lampard’s final game. Tuchel is no stranger to rotation so could simply have handed the England midfielder a well-earned rest, but his omission was a talking point. Cesar Azpilicueta captained Tuchel’s first Blues XI, with Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in midfield, and Callum Hudson-Odoi making a start. Antonio Rudiger started in defence, in a move widely expected with Tuchel a known admirer of the Germany centre-back. Tuchel revealed he had gone for experience. Speaking to BT Sport before kick-off Tuchel admitted the last few days had been something of a whirlwind. He said: “You cannot imagine, you cannot imagine. The last maybe 48, 72 hours were a bit surreal, but we are right here now and playing a match with Chelsea is amazing. “But at the same time it was crazy, crazy last days. “Today the choice was totally unfair because how can I make a choice with one training session where everybody was really focused and really open to all the things we trained? “It’s maybe the most unfair line-up we have ever done because there is no reason to give to players to not be in the line-up. “We chose for a bit more experience today in a moment which is not easy. We are stepping in in the middle of a season. The place where we are is not the place where we should be, so the expectations are high, the tension is high, so we went for a bit of experience.” Tuchel also vowed to play an attacking style of football allied with solid defence. At the same time, when I think about Chelsea football, it’s an intense game, it’s a game with mentality, teams with a winning mentality who can also defend hard and defend strong and compact and solid as a group. “We want to create this. We see a lot of talent, we have a good mix of experience, of personality and of young players and of course we want to encourage them to play an attacking style, to be active in all moments of the game.” Asked what message he had been able to get across in just one training session on Tuesday, Tuchel added: “We will see, we will see if I have put any messages across, we will see. “I was happy to be on the pitch because I feel best on the pitch and it’s the best moment to get known to players because they feel comfortable, so we took the possibility, and there’s nothing to be afraid of. “We tried to work on some details and encourage the guys to do their best today, and it was clear when we were here, we will be at the sideline and take the possibility to coach.” READ MORE: Chelsea star Mason Mount issues heartfelt tribute to Frank Lampard The post Thomas Tuchel admits first Chelsea team selection was ‘unfair’ appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING
