Harry Redknapp has questioned Gary Neville’s analysis of incoming Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.
Redknapp, 73, has hit out at Chelsea after axing his nephew after just 18 months.
The former Spurs boss said it was “very disappointing” because he thought Chelsea had afforded Lampard more time.
Lampard was axed on Monday morning after a run of five defeats in eight games in the Premier League. The £200m-plus the club spent in the summer has been a noose around Lampard’s neck.
He has struggled to get the best out of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz and one of Tuchel’s briefs will be to get the expensive pair firing.
Tuchel, who is out of work, offers an experienced option for Chelsea having won two Ligue 1 titles at Paris Saint-Germain, as well as the DFB-Pokal with Borussia Dortmund.
“He knows a few of the players who are currently at Chelsea,” said Neville. “It’s another top manager who is coming into the Premier League.
“We’ve been blessed over the past few years with some absolutely outstanding managers to see the league rise to being the best in Europe again with the performances of clubs in the Champions League improving, with Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino getting to semi-finals and finals.
‘Who says he’s a great manager?’
“Tuchel is another manager who has got that sort of pedigree, so it’s a great addition to the Premier League if he does come.”
But Redknapp has questioned Neville’s decision to judge Tuchel on his success in France.
“They will bring a new manager in now,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.
“I heard Gary Neville saying earlier they’ve got another great manager coming into the league. Who says he’s a great manager?
“Winning titles at PSG in France doesn’t make you a great manager. What does that prove?
“You’re quite entitled to win the league in France when you’re managing PSG. Only time will tell how good he is.”
