Palace hope to quell anger over Eze Covid breach at QPR Crystal Palace say they had no knowledge of Eberechi Eze’s visit to watch his former club Queens Park Rangers play Fulham in the FA Cup on Saturday. Rangers boss Mark Warburton has admitted the club made an error in allowing the Palace winger to attend the match. Fulham fans are still banned from grounds as the country remains in lockdown. Palace say the winger, signed from Rangers in the summer, realises he should not have gone to Loftus Road. They will deal with the issue, plus the fact he was pictured not wearing a mask, internally. A Palace statement read: “QPR have acknowledged they made a mistake in hosting Eberechi Eze in the directors’ box at Saturday’s FA Cup match against Fulham without our knowledge. “Whilst we recognise Eberechi’s desire to support his former team-mates, he accepts it was an error of judgement to attend the match. “We were also concerned to see pictures of Eberechi not wearing a mask at certain moments and are speaking to him about these apparent lapses, which will be dealt with internally.” The news comes as government advisors admit the next few weeks will be the worst of the pandemic. There have been calls to suspend professional football but, despite numerous positive tests, it continues. All football was suspended during last year’s first lockdown and the infection numbers are now far worse. That is another reason why all concerned will be unhappy that Eze flouted the rules. Eze finding his feet Eze moved to Selhurst Park last summer for a fee reported to be in the region of £17m. He was a workhorse of the Hoops side last term, starting all 46 Championship games for the west Londoners. The England Under-21 ace bagged 14 goals, attracting the attention of a few clubs. Roy Hodgson won the battle for his signature and he has made a steady start to life with the Eagles. He has bagged just two top-flight goals but his strike against Sheffield United will live long in the memory. The 20-yard effort is already been touted as a goal of the season contender. His other goal came on November 7 as Palace thrashed Leeds United 4-1 on their own patch. It seems unlikely that the Greenwich-born star will ever be prolific in front of goal. But he has plenty of time to improve and, with Hodgson in charge, will learn what is required both on and off the pitch.
