Manchester United defender star Diogo Dalot is wanted by AC Milan on a permanent transfer after an impressive loan spell.
The Portuguese right-back has spent the first half of this season at the San Siro, with Milan currently top of Serie A.
And the 21-year-old has played a major role in getting them there, making 16 appearances in all competitions.
To that end, SunSport claims that Milan have ‘made early contact’ with United to see if a deal can be brokered this summer.
Dalot is believed to be happy in Italy and is open to extending his stay – either on loan again or permanently.
The big question mark will be if Milan can afford to make the deal a permanent one.
Like many clubs across Europe, they are not in a position to spend big due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The report adds that Rossoneri would be willing to pay around £15m plus add-ons for him. That is someway short of the £19m the Red Devils handed over to Porto in 2018.
However, Dalot is currently on around £40,000-a-week, which is well within Milan’s wage structure.
As for United, they have yet to make their mind up over the player’s long-term future. They have, however, been monitoring his progress in Italy closely.
Dalot has just two-years left on his Old Trafford deal at the end of this term. There is an option. though. to extend for a further 12-months.
His ability to play at either right-back or left-back certainly makes him a useful squad player. But United now have Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alex Telles and Brandon Williams all fighting for full-back spots.
That could lead them to consider cashing in on Dalot and looking to strengthen their squad elsewhere with those funds.
Keane rips into United display
Roy Keane claimed Manchester United’s are ‘frightened of mounting a title challenge’ after the goalless draw at Arsenal.
Edinson Cavani missed a golden opportunity to slot in the winner in the second half at the Emirates. However, Keane said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men looked like they lacked the belief to see off an injury-hit Gunners.
The result, coming on the back of United’s shock midweek loss to bottom-club Sheffield United, coupled with Manchester City’s Saturday win over the Blades, leaves United three points behind their neighbours – who have a game in hand.
“I’m scratching my head with United. The worry for me watching them today, they almost lacked the belief they could go and win the game,” Keane told Sky Sports.
“It’s Man Utd, you’re looking at Arsenal who are missing a few players, the game was there for the taking.” Read more…
