Liverpool are pondering making a loan move for USA captain Aaron Long, claims a report.
English-based football reporter Pete O’Rourke claims the champions are thinking about a loan move for Long.
The journalist, writing for Football Insider, claims Long, 28, could be the stop-gap solution for Jurgen Klopp.
Sky Sports have reported that New York Red Bulls are expected to approve a loan move for Long due to the ongoing suspension of Major League Soccer.
The centre-back, who has won 18 caps for the USA, has been the subject of at least one approach from a Championship club. That club is believed to be Reading, according to the Washington Post.
The Royals have been attracted by the short-term deal because there is no loan fee, with any club only required to pay his wages. An option to purchase could also be included, while there is also interest in the player from France
West Ham made attempts to sign Long on loan in January 2020,but the approach was rejected by the Red Bulls.
Now it seems Liverpool have an interest in the California-born defender as Klopp looks to plug the gaps at the back.

The champions were dealt a hammer blow in the 3-1 win at Tottenham as Joel Matip and Fabinho picked up injuries.
Liverpool ‘trying’ for defensive solution
Klopp has since suggested Matip’s injury might not be as serious as first feared, but says Fabinho will not play against West Ham.
Klopp said: “There are still glimmers of hope that it’s not that serious, so no we don’t have the final result.
“We will know more in three or four hours, hopefully and Fabinho, no chance for the weekend.”
The German coach did though signal the club’s intention to make a signing in the window, despite its closure on Monday at 11pm.
“We will try. It will be funny when you all think ‘Ah, Liverpool is fine with the situation, they don’t care, they don’t try. We try,” he told reporters.
“But there’s nothing to say until something happens, so we will see. The situation yesterday didn’t make it easier, but we try to do the right things.
“If it’s possible, we will do it and if not, not.”
