Klopp confirms complications in Matip diagnosis; hails ‘world-class’ Liverpool star Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he does not yet know the extent of centre-back Joel Matip’s ankle injury. The Cameroonian came off at half time during his side’s 3-1 win over Spurs on Thursday. Klopp confirmed immediately after the game that he had suffered ankle ligament damage. However, he could not ascertain its severity. Speaking in Friday’s press conference before Sunday’s 3-1 defeat of West Ham, the manager added that a “glimmer of hope” remained over his spell on the sidelines. Pressed for another update in his latest post-match briefing, Klopp said: “With Joel we don’t have the final diagnosis. “Specialists must have a look and stuff like this until we know exactly.” Matip’s latest injury blow comes so soon after he had returned from an adductor issue suffered just after Christmas. As such, his flaky injury record has significantly worsened this season. Klopp also faced questions on the imminent arrival of Preston defender Ben Davies. The 25-year-old is the man Liverpool have identified to add cover to their battered back line. But he said: “On transfer things, we don’t say anything, so nothing to say about it until something is done, if something is done.” Klopp hails super Salah Meanwhile, Klopp hailed Mohamed Salah’s performance against the Hammers. The Egyptian netted twice in east London, including finishing off a rapid counter-attack with a fantastic touch and finish. His other was a trademark curled shot into the top left-corner. His coach said (via the Liverpool Echo): “He actually scored a goal against Tottenham. It didn’t count, I know that, but it was a brilliant ‘goal’. “He had nothing to do with him that it didn’t count. It was a handball in the build up but the goal was brilliant. And even that, for sure, was a good sign for him that a couple of things are clicking again. “Tonight we played a super game. He was really involved in the game, flexible, all these kinds of things. “He kept the ball, his passing was good and his controlling of the ball was really good. “And in the end, his first goal was just a super smart goal. I didn’t see it back, but from my perspective, (goalkeeper) Fabianski couldn’t see the ball so he chipped it into the far corner. Super smart.” READ MORE: Fresh detail sheds telling light on how close Liverpool came to double centre-back deal The post Klopp confirms complications in Matip diagnosis; hails ‘world-class’ Liverpool star appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING
