Liverpool midfielder Fabinho says that the fact that Mohamed Salah continues to score goals shows his commitment to Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Salah said in December that he could not rule out a move to the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid.
More tellingly, though, the Egyptian admitted that he felt “very disappointed” at not earning the captaincy for the Champions League dead rubber against Midtjylland.
Since scoring in that game, though, he has netted five goals in seven outings, including four in six Premier League matches.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Brazilian Fabinho insisted that such form shows that the winger is not slowing up.
“Big players will always have their names involved in rumours,” Fabinho said.
“Salah plays for Liverpool, one of the biggest teams in the world. So I think it’s normal to see his name linked to other teams, especially from different leagues.
“Anyway, I see him very happy here and pleased with his performances this season. He’s very demanding with himself, he wants to be the best, he wants to help the team and works hard for it.
“It’s always been the case and it hasn’t changed at all. He keeps scoring goals, which everyone is used to seeing. In the changing room he’s always talking to everyone and making jokes.
“I don’t see anything affecting him. Overall, I am not following the news so I’m not sure about any rumours. As I said, top quality players will always be linked to big clubs.”
Salah has managed his recent scoring record despite Liverpool’s attack as a whole dropping off. But the 7-0 win over Crystal Palace perhaps over-inflates the Reds’ recent form – having won only two of their past six matches.
As for his future, speculation has claimed that Liverpool are prioritising new contracts for Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk ahead of Salah.
Liverpool close to sealing defender exit
Meanwhile, reports elsewhere claim that Liverpool are close to agreeing a loan exit for Sepp van den Berg.
The defender has yet to play for the Reds this season, despite their concerns at the back.
Instead, Nathaniel Phillips and fellow youngster Rhys Williams have stepped in after injuries to Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
