Pundit urges Sheff Utd to sign proven ex-Liverpool man An ex-Premier League striker has mooted that a former Liverpool attacker would be an excellent fit for a top-flight side who are currently in dire straits. Former Aston Villa and England striker Darren Bent has suggested that Sheffield United could benefit from having Daniel Sturridge leading the line. The 31-year-old is currently a free agent after being released by Turkish outfit Trabzonspor in March. The Blades are currently bottom of the Premier League having not won all season. They find themselves 11 points from safety after playing 16 games, having scored just eight times. It is no secret manager Chris Wilder is looking for attacking reinforcements in January.     However, he has already gone on record stating he is not interesting in Sturridge, according to Yorkshire Live. But Bent believes Wilder should reconsider his stance on the forward, who lifted the 2019 Champions League trophy with Liverpool. “You can’t go and give him a normal contract with his injury record,” he conceded, speaking on Talksport. “But if you talk about pay as you play and he still looks hungry and motivated to play then why not? “Pay as you play you can’t go wrong. Because if he doesn’t play you don’t get paid.” Sturridge is proven at Premier League level too. The England international has played 218 games in the division and has scored on 77 occasions. His most prolific season came in the 2014/15 season when he scored 29 times as Liverpool infamously lost grip on the title.
