With Borussia Dortmund ready to sell for an inflated fee this summer, a new Premier League suitor has elbowed their way to the front of the Erling Haaland race, while two big-name stars could exit Tottenham in January, according to Saturday’s transfer gossip.
ERLING HAALAND RACE HEATS UP
Manchester City are the new favourites to sign Erling Haaland amid a report Borussia Dortmund plan to sell before his exit clause kicks in.
The Norwegian is regarded as the world’s top young striker, having smashed in 33 goals in 26 starts for Dortmund.
Signed a year ago from RB Salzburg, the 20-year turned down Manchester United to move to Germany.
United continue to monitor the player over a potential switch, while Real Madrid are also on his trail.
But the Daily Mail claims City are now the most likely suitors for Haaland.
That’s because with Haaland’s exit clause due to come into effect in summer 2022, it’s claimed they could cash in early. Haaland’s exit clause entitles the player to leave for around £65m in 18 months time. But the Mail suggests Dortmund could look to sell for even more this summer.
City are nearing the end of the road with their record scorer Sergio Aguero.
The Argentine’s deal expires at the end of the season and is yet to open talks over an extension. The 32-year-old has suffered an injury-hit campaign so far.
And the paper claims Pep Guardiola sees Haaland as Aguero’s perfect successor.
While the article does not mention a fee, it was claimed recently that Dortmund would demand around €100m for Haaland.
