As such, talk of a circuit breaker in the English top flight – to allow infection rates to drop – has surfaced. The Telegraph reported on Tuesday that clubs had discussed temporarily halting the action. However, Sky Sports News claims that such discussions have not taken place. In any case, Premier League managers have offered their perspectives on the proposal. He said: “When I listen to the news the variant virus transmits quicker than the original virus, we can only do the right thing which is have a circuit break. “I am 66 years old and the last thing I want to do it catch Covid. If that’s what needs to be done we need to do it. “We had one positive this week and it seems to be creeping around no matter how hard we try.” But Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has disagreed with his colleague. The Norwegian has questioned when games which would be postponed could be rescheduled for, given the already congested nature of the season.
