However, Aaron Wan-Bissaka was ultimately chosen in a £50m deal. Despite his side’s relegation last term, Aarons performed admirably in the top flight, and has continued to excel in the second tier for the current table toppers. A goal and three assists have been notched – a similar ratio of attacking returns to those he achieved in the Premier League. The France winger was tipped to join United as an alternative to Jadon Sancho over the summer, but a £55million deal failed to materialise. Dembele decided at the time that he wanted to remain in Spain and fight for his place under new boss Ronald Koeman. Barca officials wanted to sell, however, as they looked to raise funds to bring in Lyon’s Memphis Depay.
