Roberto Firmino headed home in the 89th minute as champions Liverpool earned a crucial 2-1 win over Tottenham at Anfield.
Firmino’s brilliant header found the top corner from Andrew Robertson’s corner to send the Reds back to the top of the table after Spurs had threatened to hold Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Mo Salah hit his 14th goal of the season via a deflection to put the hosts ahead in the first half.
Salah has now scored 18 goals in his last 18 home games against London sides, but he needed a deflection from Toby Alderweireld to help him break the deadlock. Spurs though equalised through a brilliant Son Heung-min strike as they came away from Merseyside with a 1-1 draw.
Liverpool expected Tottenham to play on the counter-attack and that is what they did, although there was little in the way of attacking from the visitors as they conceded vast amounts of possession.
That tactic told in the 28th minute when the hosts’ midfield dominance saw Curtis Jones drive into the penalty area and when the ball broke loose, Salah’s shot looped up off Alderweireld and inside Hugo Lloris’ left-hand post.
The goal did not appear to change the direction of traffic but – out of nowhere – a trademark Tottenham counter caught the home side cold.
Son raced through the inside-left channel in the space left by the advancing Trent Alexander-Arnold and slotted past Alisson Becker with VAR confirming he had just stayed onside.

The pattern of play continued in the second half and Lloris did well to palm away Roberto Firmino’s low shot.
Liverpool had 76% possession but Spurs carved out two great chances in quick succession in the second half.
Firstly Steven Bergwijn went through on goal, opened up his body and struck the post.
A huge let-off for Liverpool.
Then Harry Kane somehow headed the ball down from a corner and over the bar from six yards.
Liverpool though maintained their threat and Sadio Mane rolled Serge Aurier, spuns into the area and smashed in a shot from a tight angle which cannoned away off the top of the bar.
Klopp’s men kept going and Firmino did the damage in the final minute with a thunderous header to break Jose Mourinho’s heart.
