Barcelona make strong statement over reported move for Arsenal star Barcelona have reportedly ruled out a move for Arsenal misit Shkodran Mustafi, despite confirming a meeting with the German defender’s agent. The 28-year-old had been tipped to make a switch to the Nou Camp after his agent Emre Ozturk was pictured outside the ground on Instagram, according to Spox (as cited by Sport Witness). The report stated that Ozturk claimed he was in Catalonia to arrange a move for Mustafi. He said: “I’m not in Barcelona because of Yusuf Demir. But because of Shkodran Mustafi from Arsenal, whom we also represent.” However, Barca have since rejected any claims they were looking to sign the experienced defender. According to Mundo Deportivo, they claim that while a meeting had taken place it was nothing more than out of ‘courtesy’ and they ‘would not be pursing a move’ for the 28-year-old.   Mustafi has fallen way down the pecking order with the Gunners, making just two Premier League appearances this season. To that end, Arsenal are keen to offload him in January, with his contract running out next summer. LaLiga experience led to Mustafi interest Barca’s interest came about due to the fact that the German has previously played in LaLiga with Valencia. The Calatan giants also remain keen on signing a defender following to stalwart Gerard Pique in November. Despite financial issues due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Barca also remain keen on Manchester City youngster Eric Garcia. They tried to land the talented centre-back over the summer, but failed to get a deal over the line. Barcelona’s panic over signing a defender has eased slightly, however, due to the form of two younger stars.
