And that’s it, no other opportunity [to manage United].” Ferguson ended up appointing David Moyes as his successor on a six-year contract. However, his fellow Scotsman failed to last a full season. Since then, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have taken the Old Trafford hot seat but could not enjoy huge success. What’s more, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is two years into his tenure and is yet to win a trophy.
