Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has ordered club scouts to keep an eye on Jack Grealish’s progress ahead of a potential swoop, according to a report.
Grealish has gone from strength to strength at Aston Villa in recent seasons, culminating in his recent performances for England.
The 25-year-old was his country’s best player in the 2-0 defeat to Belgium, which showed his worth to Gareth Southgate. Indeed, Grealish had previously struggled to fit into the Three Lions’ set-up prior to his recent spell.
However, his recent international form comes off the back of stellar displays for his club. Villa’s captain has proved a major catalyst for their form, with four goals and six assists in seven Premier League games.
As such, Defensa Central claims that Zidane has called on club scouts to keep tabs on the midfielder’s progress as the season progresses.
However, the source adds that Madrid are not the only club ‘watching him closely’ at this early stage.
Indeed, previous reports have claimed that Manchester United could try again to sign him in January. The Red Devils were keen before Grealish put paid to speculation by signing a new deal.
And while that new contract reportedly makes him worth €45million (£40million), that price could soar if the midfielder decides he wants to leave in the coming months.
In any case, the source claims that Grealish has the potential to be Luka Modric’s ‘generational’ replacement. The 35-year-old is into the final year of his Madrid deal and his next steps are unclear.
Grealish could also succeed Isco, who is the subject of links to Everton.
Grealish to make third successive England start
Meanwhile, Grealish is likely to make his third England start in a row on Wednesday.
The Three Lions play Iceland at Wembley in a dead rubber; Sunday’s defeat to Belgium put paid to their chances of qualifying for the Nations League finals.
But it will prove to be another crucial outing for Grealish who, according to the Daily Mirror, will play from the start again after gaining Southgate’s trust.
