Schalke confirm approach made for Liverpool target, as summer release clause emerges Schalke have confirmed that AC Milan attempted to sign reported Liverpool target Ozan Kabak at the end of the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old central defender is reportedly a target for Liverpool, as they look for a January replacement for Virgil van Dijk. However, the Liverpool Echo claim that Reds officials are not interested in Kabak. The local paper claims that links with Kabak have “been met with some head scratching” by club officials, for example. A source has told the newspaper that it could simply be “the work of an exuberant agent and a team desperate for the cash.” It is worth pointing out that the paper were misled over the signing of Thiago Alcantara. In September they claimed the Spaniard was “not an active target” only to sign him later in the month. In contrast, Bundesliga journalist Chris Williams claims Schalke’s Kabak is top of Jurgen Klopp’s wanted list. And Italian source Sport Media Set also report that Liverpool are keen on the centre-back. And now the Bundesliga club have confirmed Milan tried to sign the Turkish defender this summer. Schalke sporting director Jochen Schneider told WAZ: “Milan knocked at the very end of the transfer period in the summer, which was out of the question for us. “Ozan is simply a great player, he was one of the few bright spots even after the restart in May. Kabak release clause “Now he will help us to become even more stable defensively and, with his strength at set-pieces, also more dangerous offensively.” Kabak, who is currently serving a five-game ban, is reported, via Goal to have a €45m release clause in his contract which will become active next summer. Former Stuttgart star Kabak appeared to spit n the direction of Ludwig Augustinsson during a 3-1 defeat to Werder Bremen at the end of September. Kabak was sent off in the game after receiving two yellow cards for separate incidents. The referee missed the incident with Augustinsson, but the German Football Association took retrospective action.   The post Schalke confirm approach made for Liverpool target, as summer release clause emerges appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING
