Rennes chief namechecks one Chelsea star as he slams ‘scandal’ match Rennes president Nicolas Holveck has labelled the referee’s performance in Wednesday’s clash with Chelsea as a “scandal”. The Blues were dominant throughout in the Champions League meeting but benefitted from two penalties. Timo Werner took them both, putting the hosts into a two-goal lead shortly before half-time. However, there was controversy over the second spot-kick. Tammy Abraham’s shot hit Henrique Dalbert’s outstretched arm and after a long VAR review, referee Felix Zwayer awarded Chelsea another penalty. But the decision came after the ball struck Blues centre-back Kurt Zouma, with Zwayer unmoved on that occasion. Indeed, that decision played a part in Holveck’s damning assessment of the game. “I am very proud of the coach. We should not be ashamed despite the score,” Holveck told RMC Sport. “I would like them to explain to me the handball rules inside the box. “If there is a handball from Dalbert while the ball has already touched his foot, what about the handball from Zouma? VAR wakes up for our [handball] but not theirs. “And on top of that he gives a second yellow with that. We can be frustrated, more than frustrated. The result, it was the referee who made it.” Rennes offered little in the first half, with Abraham, Werner and Hakim Ziyech constantly causing the visitors problems. Indeed, the Ligue 1 side only staged a late fightback after Abraham made it 3-0, but Edouard Mendy kept his clean sheet. Defeat difficult to accept     “The match is killed at 2-0 while Alfred [Gomis, Rennes’ goalkeeper] has not had a save to make. We were certainly refereed like the newbie, and that is difficult to accept,” Holveck added. “You have less weight over the referee when you are Rennes than when you are Chelsea. When the referee has a good match, in general, you do not speak about him. “But I think we are going to speak a lot about him this evening. Even the English media are unanimous in saying that it is a little scandal. Sleep will be hard to find.” READ MORE: Lampard reveals telling Jorginho chats that influenced Werner display The post Rennes chief namechecks one Chelsea star as he slams ‘scandal’ match appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING

Rennes president Nicolas Holveck has labelled the referee’s performance in Wednesday’s clash with Chelsea as a “scandal”.

The Blues were dominant throughout in the Champions League meeting but benefitted from two penalties.

Timo Werner took them both, putting the hosts into a two-goal lead shortly before half-time. However, there was controversy over the second spot-kick.

“If there is a handball from Dalbert while the ball has already touched his foot, what about the handball from Zouma? VAR wakes up for our [handball] but not theirs.
