Real Madrid are “probing” the transfer market to try and find a buyer for Isco with Everton and Arsenal mentioned as potential destinations.
That is the latest coming from El Confidencial (via Sport Witness) who report the “love story” between Isco and Real Madrid “seems to be coming to an end”.
Isco, 28, has been at the Bernabeu since 2013. The midfielder was a €30m recruit from Malaga and had high expectations placed upon him.
The Benalmadena-born player has played over 200 games for Los Blancos, but never pushed on from his best season three years ago. Isco hit 10 LaLiga goals in 2016/17, but his time on the field has been limited ever since.
His contract expires at the end of June 2022, and Madrid are already “probing” the market for a buyer.
The Covid-19 pandemic has hit Los Blancos hard and Isco is believed to be one player marked down for sale next year.
This season under Zinedine Zidane her has made six LaLiga appearances, but only three of those have been starts. And a closer look at his stats will tell you that two of those starts were in humiliating defeats against Cadiz and last time out in the 4-1 reverse against Valencia.
The writing may well be on the wall for Isco. El Confidencial’s headline reads: “Real Madrid put Isco on the market with the approval of Zidane.”
Isco losing faith
Isco is also well aware of his lost prominence. The outlet claim Isco had a few words to Marcelo recently that were caught by the cameras: “If he has to change me, he changes me in minute 50 or 60 of the game. Sometimes in the break. And if he has to put me in, he puts me in at minute 80.”
Everton have been linked after James Rodriguez was reunited with Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison.
As per the source, there is talk of a €20m January offer from Everton.
Ancelotti though played down the talk recently.
He said: “Isco is a fantastic player and [I have] a fantastic memory of him but now I am not, honestly, focused there.”
But Real are hoping Arsenal step in, even if it is to simply push the price up.
Isco has been mentioned as a long-term target for Arsenal, but with Dani Ceballos in situ that looks unlikely.
The recent arrival of Thomas Partey also means that Arsenal’s spending is likely to be done for now.
Liverpool were also linked last January. Spanish outlet El Desmarque, claimed that one area Jurgen Klopp had identified as a “weak point” was attacking midfield.
Since then though Klopp has added Thiago Alcantara and a move for Isco looks unlikely.
