Liverpool have been left with a free hit to sign David Alaba after a surprise development at Bayern Munich, while Carlo Ancelotti wants a Real Madrid star alongside James Rodriguez at Everton, according to Monday’s transfer gossip.

BAYERN WITHDRAW ALABA CONTRACT OFFER

Liverpool look to have been given a free run to sign David Alaba after Bayern Munich withdrew their offer of a contract extension to the defender.

Reports last week claimed the Reds were exploring the possibility of bringing Alaba to Anfield in January.

Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for more defensive cover in the wake of Virgil van Dijk’s season-ending ACL injury.

And while Alaba might not be the natural centre-back Klopp desperately needs, he is seemingly in his thinking.

Liverpool’s interest prompted a strongly-worded warning to the player from Bayern coach Hansi Flick.

However, it seems Flick’s wish to retain Alaba’s services may be taken out of his hands. That’s after president Herbert Hainer confirmed Bayern’s U-turn over a new contract offer to the Austrian.

“Bayern presented him with a really, very good, very fair, competitive offer – especially during these times,” Hainer told BR24, via the Daily Mirror.

“We told David’s agent during the last meeting that we wanted clarity and an answer by the end of October. We want to plan for such an important position and player. But we haven’t heard anything until Saturday.

“Our sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic then contacted the agent. The answer was that the offer is still unsatisfying and that we should think more.

“We then decided to take the offer off the table completely. That means there is no longer any offer.”

OTHER SUITORS FOR ALABA

The news means Alaba will be available to leave on a free transfer next summer and could be sold in January.

The 28-year-old has made almost 400 appearances for Bayern and won 17 major honours.

But, according to Calciomercato, Alaba’s agent has also offered the player to Real Madrid. The Italian outlet claims Juventus and Inter Milan are also keen.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have also been linked with Ajax defender Perr Schuurs.
