Arsenal have been dealt a major blow to their hopes of signing attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, while PSG have opened talks to sign Lionel Messi, according to Thursday’s transfer gossip.
BLOW FOR ARSENAL IN MIDFIELDER CHASE
Arsenal’s attempts to land Dominik Szoboszlai have reportedly suffered a huge blow, with a transfer to RB Leipzig in the pipeline instead.
The Hungary international playmaker has impressed in the Champions League for RB Salzburg this season.
Despite being only 20, Szoboszlai has notched five times and added nine assists in 13 appearances so far this term.
RB Salzburg have an unearthed some incredible talent in recent times, bringing through the likes of Erling Haaland, Naby Keita and Sadio Mane.
Arsenal are eyeing Szoboszlai as an alternative to Houssem Aouar, who has so far been priced out of a move to the Emirates by Lyon – who want £50m for the player.
Indeed, reports on Wednesday suggested that Arsenal technical director Edu had held talks with the agent of the youngster over a move.
Mikel Arteta is desperate to add some creativity to his midfield. Especially after recent performances where his attack has looked toothless.
However, the Gunners look like they are about to miss out on Szoboszlai, with Salzburg’s sister club looking to snap him up.
According to Bild, as cited by the Daily Express, Leipzig are closing in on the Hungarian with a bid of £18m, plus added bonuses as well as a percentage of a future sale.
The news will come as a huge blow to Arteta, who will also face a further drop-off in creativity when Mesut Ozil finally quites the club next summer.
