Roy Keane has said that Arsenal’s players “lack respect” for boss Mikel Arteta.
Arteta’s men ended their 14-year wait for a win at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty earning them all three points.
Aubameyang slotted home from the spot after Paul Pogba’s foul, for which the United man has apologised for.
Arsenal were good value for their 1-0 win, but afterwards former United skipper Keane claimed some of the Gunners players’ post-match interviews were out of order.
After the game, Aubameyang said: “It was a very tough night but I’m really happy because the team did very well. It’s been a long time since we won here.
“We knew we had to score after having opportunities in the first half. And then we had the penalty. We work a lot with our penalties in training so we are pretty confident.
“The team did a great job. Everyone was giving their best that’s why we won. We knew since the beginning that we had to trust the process. Mikel is bringing something very nice and we have to follow.”
Keane though had an issue with the striker referring to the Arsenal boss by his first name.
“They didn’t show him respect when they called him Mikel,” Keane told Sky Sports. “He’s the manager or the boss or the gaffer.
“That is respect, not Mikel, he is not your mate.
“It’s called respect.”
Arteta was happy with the victory, and speaking to the BBC he said: “I wanted to generate belief and I asked them to be who we are as a team right now.
“I’m delighted because we played with a lot of courage and big personality.
“They played a really tricky formation with four midfielders and two that constantly strain your back four.
“We could have scored twice in the first half and when we scored the goal we had to manage those moments. There was high stress, it is different to any other ground.
Keane happy with Arsenal recruit
Meanwhile, Keane has picked out a new Arsenal signing as being capable of solving an issue that has been a “big problem” for years.
The Gunners have enjoyed something of a renaissance since Mikel Arteta’s arrival in the winter of last year.
The Spaniard’s win percentage as boss is already higher than predecessor Unai Emery’s, and less than half a percent below Arsene Wenger’s mark of 57.25%.
The FA Cup and Community Shield have already been scooped up, but it is in the style of play that the biggest changes have been made.
A recurring criticism of Arsenal teams was their relatively low work rate on the defensive side of the game and a soft underbelly when facing strong opposition.
Arteta attempted to remedy that issue in the crucial position of central midfield in the summer by acquirig ex-Atletico Madrid enforcer Thomas Partey.
“Arsenal have been lacking aggression for years. There’s still a softness to them,” Keane told Sky Sports (via The Mirror). “I think he [Partey] will be a good signing for them.”
