Speaking to Suddeutsche Zeitung, however, Boateng says that the recent reports are the first he has heard of his potential exit. “Nobody approached me, nobody spoke to me, I didn’t know anything about it, I was surprised,” the defender said. Clearly, whether Boateng signs a new contract before the end of the season remains unclear. However, he has expressed past interest in extending his now nine-year association with his current club. Boateng moved to Munich from Manchester City in 2011 and has not looked back, winning two Champions League titles among other silverware. However, in a recent interview, he also said that he would not “say no” to the prospect of returning to the Premier League if the chance arose. Meanwhile, there remains a public spat over Alaba’s future. The Austrian had received a contract offer from Bayern, only for the club to retract it.
