Manchester United saw a loan bid for Ismaila Sarr turned down by Watford on transfer deadline day, according to a report.
The Manchester Evening News says United tried to get a winger in at Old Trafford in the final 48 hours of the window once they realised they were not signing Jadon Sancho.
United’s pursuit of the England star turned into a farce with Raphael Honigstein saying United “spent two months playing a poker game against somebody who wasn’t even at the table”.
Ed Woodward and Co. changed tact in the final days of the window and the local paper claim they made a loan offer for Sarr.
MEN Sport report that United made a bid for Watford’s Sarr for an initial season-long loan with the option to buy at £25m.
Relegated Watford though turned it down and are holding out for an outright permanent deal.
The Hornets are also thinking bigger in terms of a price tag on the attacker, who arrived from Rennes just over 12 months ago for £30m.
United could still go after Sarr with the deadline on domestic deals from the Football League not until October 16.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Champions League squad has to be named on Tuesday and Sarr would not be included if they did make another move for the 22-year-old.
And the source “understands United currently have no plans to sign any more players this year and are happy with the options already at the club”.
Sarr has made two appearances for Watford in the Championship this season, but boss Vladimir Ivic is open to selling the Senegal star at the right price. Ivic is hoping to freshen up his squad and the money from Sarr will help him do exactly that.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he told Edinson Cavani to join Manchester United in January, before explaining why the striker will be a success.
United wrapped up the signing of free agent Cavani on deadline day after he had been released by Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the summer.
Cavani scored 200 goals in 301 games for the French giants, and United will now be hoping to benefit from his talents.
And few people are happier about the signing than former Red Devils defender Ferdinand – who has revealed that he got in touch with Cavani back in the winter.
He said on YouTube: “It’s mad because I reached out to Cavani on social media in January.”
