Paul Pogba ‘hates’ playing in a deeper midfield role at Manchester United and wants to contribute more in attack alongside Bruno Fernandes, according to a report.
Fernandes has made himself one of the first names on the United team sheet with his stunning impact to date.
Indeed since joining in January he has scored 14 goals and assisted 10 others in 26 games in his attacking role.
And while there was great anticipation about how Pogba would slot in alongside his new teammate, The Independent claims that that excitement has worn off.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prefers to play Pogba alongside either Fred, Nemanja Matic or Scott McTominay in the heart of midfield.
Further forward, meanwhile, Fernandes has more say in providing chances for Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
But the newspaper claims that the relationship between Pogba and Fernandes has ‘given way to dysfunction’.
Pogba reportedly hates his current role and wants to player higher up the midfield alongside Fernandes.
The Frenchman, though, is enjoying one of his most consistent runs in the team over recent times. Indeed he only made eight appearances before last season’s coronavirus lockdown.
Injury put paid to his progress last term but he looks to be at full fitness this time round.
There has since been another addition to Solskjaer’s midfield, with Donny van de Beek’s signing. The Dutchman arrived from Ajax in the summer but has made a limited impact to date.
That could soon change, though, with the 23-year-old reportedly informing Solskjaer he is keen to play anywhere in the team.
What’s more, he has begun a strength training programme in a bid to acclimatise him to the Premier League’s physical nature.
