One MEN source gave insight into how pleased United were to have signed the 16-year-old. Speaking of United’s decision to announce Kambwala’s arrival with a picture of him signing a contract, something they do not normally do for academy players, the source said: “Make of that what you will in terms of how happy they are with the coup.” The MEN describe Kambwala as a player who showed “Olympian speed and a bruising sliding tackle” on his United academy debut. They also outlined his “set-piece threat” and “perceptive passing”. Kambwala came through the same youth club as Patrice Evra and current United forward Anthony Martial, who invited a group of players from the Les Ulis setup to a game at Old Trafford back in 2018. Kambwala was among the travelling party and vowed to one day return. He has now received his wish, and United will be hoping he fulfils his potential.
