While the Gunners triggered his exit clause with LaLiga, it was ultimately down to the player whether he made the move. As such, El Chiringuito journalist Jose Damian Gonzalez claims Partey only moved for financial reasons only. “What looks bad is the way he left in the end,” Gonzalez said on Instagram Live, as cited by Sports Witness. “The clumsy thing his father, Jacob Partey said, was that he went to improve himself in a big team. “Last year, Arsenal finished eighth, didn’t qualify for the Champions League. They’re in the Europa League group stages. “Thomas left for the money. Everyone, in all professions, wants to earn as much as possible, but he went for the money. I’ll say it now and I’ll stick by it: Atletico are a better team than Arsenal.”   Runarsson signals Arsenal ambitions Meanwhile, another Arsenal new boy, Runar Alex Runarsson, has stated his ambitions after signing for the Gunners. The Iceland keeper will play back-up to Bernd Leno after replacing Emiliano Martinez, who moved to Aston Villa. But the form of Martinez last season caught Runarsson’s eye and he says he will be looking to replicate the Argentine’s success. “I read an interview with him a couple of days ago. He said he came in as the ninth-choice goalkeeper, but he worked his a*se off to become the first-choice at Arsenal after Leno’s injury,” Runarsson added. “Then, he makes a brilliant move to Aston Villa for £20m.
