Liverpool are planning to switch up their attack with a Jurgen Klopp favourite set to be replaced by a prolific frontman, while Man Utd are keen on a Norway playmaker, according to Monday’s Euro Paper Talk.
ERLING HAALAND IN LIVERPOOL SIGHTS
Liverpool are planning an audacious bid to sign Erling Haaland, according to reports.
The Norway goal-machine was strongly linked with Manchester United prior to his move to Borussia Dortmund. However, a damning report explained why Ed Woodward overlooked the bargain €20m deal.
Nonetheless, a move to the Premier League could one day come about with Haaland having a €75m exit clause in his deal with BVB.
While it remains unclear whether that kicks in in 2021 or 2022, it’s now reported Liverpool are considering an approach.
As per Don Balon, Jurgen Klopp is desperate to add the prolific Haaland to his ranks.
They state Klopp is ready to turn to Haaland as an alternative to Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian remains a vital cog in the Liverpool side, but his alarming drop-off in terms of goals is starting to concern the Reds boss.
Firmino is without a goal this season and managed just 12 in all competitions last time. In the 28 matches Liverpool have played in 2020, the Brazilian has just four to his name.
While Klopp has moved to defend the role Firmino plays for Liverpool, the report does state his dry patch is causing some alarm.
As such, Don Balon claims Klopp is now considering a change of tactic. They claim the more direct running and physical presence of Haaland would offer a fresh approach to the Liverpool attack. His presence could also further benefit the prolific Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.
Haaland has 21 goals in 23 games since signing for Dortmund. He also has six in six for Norway.
