Tottenham are keen on signing Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard after his relationship with the club deteriorated, according to a report.
Lingard has not started a Premier League game since January, with his Old Trafford game time limited.
Previous reports have indicated that Lingard will not be short of suitors, should a move away materialise. West Ham could offer him another top-flight move, with AC Milan also in the running.
However, according to the Daily Star Sunday, Tottenham have now emerged as candidates for the 27-year-old.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is leading the charge, confident he can resurrect a career that has lost its way. Indeed, Mourinho worked with Lingard while at the Man Utd helm for two-and-a-half seasons.
The newspaper adds that Tottenham could look to pull off a £30million deal to sign the England international.
Lingard’s chances diminished amid the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January. The Portuguese is a guaranteed starter under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after his stunning immediate impact.
Furthermore, Donny van de Beek has now arrived from Ajax, pushing Lingard further down the pecking order. Van de Beek impressed on debut, scoring in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Lingard’s Old Trafford relations diminish further
The Daily Star Sunday adds that Lingard was “seething” at Solskjaer after not earning a place on the substitutes bench against Palace.
What’s more, Lingard has failed with an attempt to hold showdown talks with his manager. The Norwegian manager has reportedly ignored the midfielder’s approaches in recent weeks.
Lingard also feels at a dead end after further attempts to resurrect his career. The Englishman hired a personal trainer while on holiday in a bid to keep himself fit.
However, he feels he is out of options in a bid to impress United’s coaching staff of his place in the team.
He would be “reluctant” to leave Old Trafford, the report adds, having risen through United’s academy ranks.
But he feels he has no other option and could now opt to move down south for a fresh start.
