Arsenal have been cleared to seal the transfer of €60m Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic, according to a report.
Jovic, who has had a nightmare debut campaign at the LaLiga club, has been linked with Arsenal previously, but Zinedine Zidane has now given the green light to offload the former Eintract Frankfurt man.
According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Los Blancos are aiming to recoup their €60m outlay with Zidane unwilling to give the Serbia international another chance to shine.
Jovic has started only four league games and has found himself frozen out of Zidane’s plans, while he has also been in hot water whilst in lockdown.
Marca reported last month how he must testify before prosecutors in Serbia after allegedly breaching quarantine rules in the country, angering his club.
However, the forward has injury problems too with a statement from Los Blancos on Friday confirming that the 22-year-old had been diagnosed with “an extra-articular fracture in the calcaneus bone of the right foot”, and now faces a period of evaluation.
That may well have been the final straw for Zidane, despite Diario AS outlining how Jovic is desperate to fight for a second chance at the Bernabeu.
Arsenal on the other hand are looking for a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with doubts over his future at The Emirates and some kind of swap deal with Jovic could be on the table.
Real Madrid have reportedly told Arsenal that they must make a decision on Aubameyang’s future by June 15.
Aubameyang, who joined the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, has scored an impressive 61 goals in 97 appearances since his arrival.
Indeed, the Gabon international had netted 17 in the Premier League this term before the action was halted but as well as the season, the striker’s future is now at a crossroads.
Aubameyang has just over a year remaining on his contract and at 30 years of age, a bumper new contract could be his last – or, it could be the final opportunity for Arsenal to gain any value on him.
Real have been linked with the forward for a number of months now but according to the Star on Sunday, the Spanish giants have now set the ball rolling on the player’s future.
