Manchester United have begun talks with the representatives of RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate, according to reports.
The Red Devils splashed out a world record fee for a defender to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City last summer, and despite the England man being a success so far, they now need to find a reliable centre-back partner for him to really tighten things up at the back.
According to Le10 Sport (via Sport Witness), that man could be Konate, who is beginning to make an impression at RB Leipzig despite only being 20 years old.
Konate has made just five starts in the Bundesliga this season, but remains a promising prospect, and it is claimed that United have outlined him as a target with long-term potential.
United are already looking towards Germany for attacking targets, with Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho among those linked with a move to Old Trafford – and the division could give them their solution in defence as well.
Konate, who is exactly the same height as the imposing Harry Maguire, had been linked with Arsenal just over a year ago, and has since gone on to cement his place as a regular for France’s Under-21 side.
United are said to have been in touch to find out the player’s desires over his future, with his contract in Leipzig running until 2023.
Le10 Sport also suggest that United are interested in Ligue 1 based players Victor Osimhen, Wissam Ben Yedder and Moussa Dembele in their search for a striker.
However, it was recently claimed that Liverpool had opened talks to beat them to the signing of Lille star Osimhen.
