The representatives of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho are in discussions with Juventus about a €40million (£34.6million) deal to take him back to the Serie A, according to a report.
Jorginho moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2018 as former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri’s first signing, marking the second club at which the pair have worked together.
The Italy international played all but one of Chelsea’s Premier League games last term and featured heavily in the run to Europa League glory, but he was often the scapegoat ahead of Sarri’s departure after just one season.
Jorginho has stepped up under Frank Lampard but according to The National, the chance of the midfielder and Sarri pairing up at a third club is on the cards.
The source says that Sarri wants to work with the 28-year-old again and talks over a deal are underway.
It is said that the Juve coach eyes the midfielder as a better option in the holding role than Miralem Pjanic or Rodrigo Bentancur, his current options.
The National adds that Lampard faces a dilemma due to the talks because there are obvious reasons for Chelsea keeping or selling Jorginho.
While Jorginho has proved his worth this season, his age means the upcoming transfer window could be the last opportunity to recoup a decent chunk of the initial £50million they paid for the player.
Indeed, Lampard has not had chance to perform an overhaul of his squad after coming to the club with a transfer plan in place and amid the current crisis, Jorginho’s sale could provide vital funds.
Lampard’s first signing was announced earlier this year, with Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech set to move to Stamford Bridge whenever the current Premier League season comes to a close.
Indeed, Ziyech has no upcoming commitments given that the Dutch top division was ended prematurely without the declaration of any title winner.
In other news, Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori has named Liverpool pair Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah as his toughest opponents to date.
Tomori was involved at Stamford Bridge when the Blues lost 2-1 to Liverpool in September, with Firmino on the scoresheet.
