The agent of Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has blasted the way his client was treated at Besiktas before terminating his loan contract with the Turkish club.
Karius announced on Monday that despite trying “everything” to resolve the issue of his unpaid wages, he was to return to Liverpool prior to his two-season loan coming to an end.
The German had two lots of wages withheld from him on separate occasions, going without payment for up to four months last year.
Speaking to Fanatik (via Sport Witness), Florian Goll added that he is yet to discuss what the future has in store for his client given the current uncertainties surrounding the football season.
“Karius is still 26 and has a great career ahead of him,” the agent said.
“He is now returning to Liverpool where he still has two years of the contract. We haven’t discussed what we will do in the future. Let’s see what will happen.
“Unfortunately, Besiktas’ board have handled things pretty badly.
“We decided to keep calm despite the unpaid wages. Karius was ready to help the club during this situation but they never listened.”
Karius will return to Merseyside when the pandemic eases but he is unlikely to reclaim his spot in Jurgen Klopp‘s plans, having cost his side dear in the 2018 Champions League final.
Indeed, Liverpool responded to that defeat by launching a raid on Roma for Alisson Becker, who has transformed the Reds’ defence behind Virgil van Dijk.
Karius played 67 matches for Besiktas before ending his association with the club.
In other news, the former coach of Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir has revealed that a switch to Anfield is all but sealed for the player.
Cakir has been linked with a move to Liverpool for a number of months and reports suggested that he was the preferred choice before the Reds signed Adrian from West Ham last summer.
