Long-time Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has hinted at his next destination, and revealed the one change at the Gunners that has allowed him to flourish this season.
The Argentine stopper joined Arsenal in 2010, though has spent the vast majority of his Gunners career out on loan to lower league clubs and a brief stint with La Liga outfit Getafe.
This season has brought about greater opportunity to shine, however, with the 27-year-old assuming the role of designated cup keeper.
Five appearances in the FA Cup and League Cup have been complimented with six outings in the Europa League, with the 11 appearances comprising almost half of Martinez’s total number of matches since his promotion to the first-team squad eight years ago.
His revitalisation at the club has come as a welcome sight to many Gunners fans, and Martinez cites the influx of South American talent as one reason why he has recently excelled.
“It’s good that there are more South Americans, to have more people who are similar to your culture,” TNT Sports report him as saying (via SportWitness).
“For many years they were from France, Germany or England and now having more South Americans helps a lot.”
However, an emotional return to boyhood club Independiente has never been far from Martinez’s mind, and the player once again dropped a hint that his next destination could be Argentina.
“If there’s one club I’d go to in Argentina, it’s Independiente,” he added.
“I’d never say no to them; I’m very grateful.
“I always had the bitter taste of not being able to make my debut in Primera before going to Europe.”
Meanwhile, the Gunners have been namechecked by a Man Utd target, who has revealed two irresistible offers from a pair of Spanish heavyweights.
Raul Jimenez has been a success story for Wolves since joining them for their first season back in the Premier League in 2018, and has continued his impressive form this term, having completed his permanent transfer to Molineux last summer.
The 28-year-old Mexican has subsequently been linked with a high-profile move to somewhere like Manchester United, although his response to such links has so far been mixed.
Now, Jimenez has opened up on what he has heard about his future, but admitted he still has a lot to achieve at Wolves.
