Despite the early hiccups, France midfielder Sissoko believes the change was a positive move for the club, and threw his weight firmly behind the serial trophy winner by declaring him the “future” of the club. Speaking in an interview with French publication Europe 1 (via SportWitness) the 30-year-old said: “We’re happy with Mourinho. He brought a new freshness. “We aren’t going to spit on what Pochettino did, he brought the club to a new level, but now our future is José Mourinho. “We have objectives, fourth place is still doable. We’re going to do everything.” Sissoko had not played for the club since undergoing knee surgery for a medial collateral ligament injury suffered in December, though had returned to training prior to football’s hiatus. His absence was just one in a long line of disruptions that hampered Mourinho’s maiden season at the helm. However, should the season resume after the coronavirus pandemic subsides, Sissoko is confident Tottenham will be able to turn things around. “At one point, we had a lot of games, injuries, important players missing,” added Sissoko. “The team was put in difficulty, we had bad results, we’re aware of that. “If we have the chance to start the league again, everyone will be fit. We’ll be at full strength.” Meanwhile, Tottenham have confirmed that superstar forward Son Heung-min will begin a four-week spell of military service in his native South Korea.
