Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has named his World XI with a twist – and had words of praise for former nemesis Roy Keane.
Liverpool legend Gerrard has offered his picks for the recent social media craze, where people are naming their best XIs from players during their lifetime but, tellingly, they cannot use the same club or country more than once.
Jamie Carragher weighed in with his choice earlier in the week, naming Gerrard in his side. But the courtesy was not reciprocated as Gerrard chose Andy Robertson for his pick from Liverpool.
Get sent this last night & it’s tough!
Best World XI that have played while you have been alive.
No 2 players can be from the same country or have played for the same club!!

In selecting his side, Gerrard commented: “I’ve gone for a few more players that are still playing now whereas Carra’s shown his age.”
Oblak
Cafu, Kompany, Koulibaly, Robertson
Kroos, Keane
Messi, Del Piero, Mbappe
Drogba
In explaining his choices, Gerrard reserved particular praise for Manchester United midfielder Keane.
“He was a top player,” he told Sky Sports. “I don’t think you appreciated how good he was until you were up against him.”
Gerrard’s two most notable omissions were Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich, Stuttgart and Germany) and Zinedine Zidane (Cannes, Bordeaux, Juventus, Real Madrid and France).
In other Liverpool news, the Reds appear to now be behind in the race to sign Timo Werner after a Premier League rival moved into pole position.
