Solskjaer hits back at Neville’s cheeky ‘competition winner’ comment Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at Gary Neville’s cheeky comments aimed at the Norwegian when he first arrived at Manchester United. The current United boss signed on at Old Trafford from Molde in 1996 and he was a complete unknown. Solskjaer went on to score 126 goals for the club and took his place in United folklore after helping United to with the Treble in 1999 by scoring the stoppage-time winner in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich. Neville though has said his first impressions of Solskjaer as a 23-year-old were wrong. “I remember Ole walking into the changing room at the Cliff for the first time, in 1996, and he walks in with what I can only describe as a jumper from the 1970s in Yorkshire,” Neville said on Sky Sports’ Off Script Podcast last week. “Woollen, bobbly. I genuinely thought he was a competition winner from Norway. He looked about nine and was so thin.” Neville admitted that he was wrong to judge Solskjaer from looks and the Norwegian had a bite back. Asked about Neville’s banter, Solskjaer smiled and said: “And then I battered him when we started playing football! You know, Gaz is a guy you either love or hate. “I’ve been sat next to him for 11 years in the dressing room and we’ve had some arguments and discussions. But he always makes up with a kiss on the forehead. And when you score a goal that would be the last thing you wanted, him to come up and kiss you! “But what a team-mate to have. I’m sure we could have quite a few hours here talking about the fun moments we had in the dressing room. “But absolutely when I came there, I was nervous – of course – but then Nicky Butt came, he was the first I met, Nicky just brought me down to the dressing room and they were all normal lads. “And that’s the thing with footballers, we’re all just normal lads, just good at kicking a ball some of us – and some are good at kicking ankles, like Gaz was!’ “You can’t win an argument with Gaz, no chance. ‘That [black] jumper he’s got on is red if he wants it to be red. It’s impossible. You have conversations and you let him think he’s won and then you know that you’ve got the right argument yourself.” READ MORE: Solskjaer bullish about Man Utd’s wealth, reveals plans to ‘exploit’ market The post Solskjaer hits back at Neville’s cheeky ‘competition winner’ comment appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at Gary Neville’s cheeky comments aimed at the Norwegian when he first arrived at Manchester United.

He looked about nine and was so thin.”

Neville admitted that he was wrong to judge Solskjaer from looks and the Norwegian had a bite back.
