Liverpool receive boost after Havertz admits he’s ‘ready to take a big step’ Kai Havertz has given Liverpool a boost after admitting that he is “ready to take a big step” in his career and may look to move away from the Bundesliga. The Bayer Leverkusen star has been heavily linked with the Reds for some time and the German club were even expecting a bid from the Premier League club in the January transfer window. No bid was made, though, with Jurgen Klopp opting to bring Takumi Minamino to Anfield from RB Salzburg following some impressive performances from the Japanese international in the Champions League. But the Merseyside club have been tipped to reignite their interest in the 20-year-old when the transfer window reopens, and the German’s latest comments have certainly provided them with plenty of encouragement should they choose to make an official offer. In an interview with Bild, cited on The Express, Havertz said: “I’m ready to take a big step, and I like challenges. For me, this also includes abroad. “Leverkusen are a great club, I feel good. I have always said that. But of course I want to take the next step in my career at some point. That’s my ambition.” It had previously been reported that Havertz would snub Liverpool in order to secure a move to Bayern Munich, however this statement suggests that may not actually be the case. Another factor going in the Reds’ favour is having Havertz’s compatriot Klopp as manager, with the player adding that he will take who is in charge of interested clubs when deciding what his next move will be.     “The coach is a very important person for me. It must be a good fit. You can see that with our coach, Peter Bosz. For me, the sporting direction of the club is also reflected in the choice of coach”, he said. The former Dortmund boss is believed to be a big fan of Havertz, and could be prepared to break Liverpool’s transfer record in order to sign him.  The Germany international made his Leverkusen debut in October 2016 and has gone on to make 139 appearances for the club since, scoring 38 goals and registering 30 assists. His best season to date came in 2018/19 when he found the net 20 times, form which earned him a call up to his national side. As well as Liverpool and Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and PSG are also thought to be keen on Havertz meaning a bidding war could be sparked when the first approach is made.
