Jurgen Klopp reflects on how run of final defeats made Liverpool stronger Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes there is still room for improvement from his side despite their status as runaway Premier League leaders and after admitting their run of final defeats only gave them more determination to succeed. The Reds were 25 points clear of second-placed Manchester City and seemingly just a couple of weeks away from being crowned champions when football in this country was halted last month. A top-flight title would be their first in the Premier League era while they won the Champions League last season. While he has presided over a side that has enjoyed almost unprecedented levels of dominance in recent months, Klopp insists Liverpool can get even better. “This team is not a finished article,” Klopp told Sky Sports News. “It’s not done yet, we have a lot of space for improvement yet. “There is fresh blood internally coming up. We can mix things through. We can improve it with this team which is really great.” This confidence and positivity was shown even after Klopp’s first handful of games in 2015, and throughout final defeats against Sevilla (Europa League 2016), Manchester City (League Cup 2016) and Real Madrid (Champions League 2018). “It was really clear we needed time. It was clear we cannot fix it overnight. Everyone wanted that, but we couldn’t so I had to ask for time. I knew,” Klopp added. “Before that in my career I never got the sack so I had no experience with that, but I knew then it was a different level, and if I can’t deliver here quick enough, then I will get the sack. “We got that time, and the nice thing is that after six, seven, eight games, they were really positive about the situation, they realised we were on the right path. From that moment they didn’t question it one second. They were full of faith and trust, and they said the path we will stay on, and everything will be fine. “That’s what we did then. When we lost finals against Sevilla or City or Real Madrid, I think pundits say then if he doesn’t’ win the next one then they might change, but internally it was never somebody thinking like this.”       Watch: The entire 30-minute interview between Klopp and Jamie Carragher (above)   Former Liverpool striker Ian Rush feels Klopp’s men deserve recognition for their achievement this season. “Liverpool have got a great history but this group of players have broken all records,” said Rush. “They do need to be recognised, the standards they have set. “They are 25 points ahead. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes there is still room for improvement from his side despite their status as runaway Premier League leaders and after admitting their run of final defeats only gave them more determination to succeed.

We can improve it with this team which is really great.”

This confidence and positivity was shown even after Klopp’s first handful of games in 2015, and throughout final defeats against Sevilla (Europa League 2016), Manchester City (League Cup 2016) and Real Madrid (Champions League 2018).
