Man Utd full-back Luke Shaw beamed with praise for a ‘mad’ former Red Devil who would ‘absolutely kill you’ if you didn’t pull your weight in training.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the man in question, with the towering Swede evidently leaving a lasting impression on his former team-mates at Old Trafford.

Ibrahimovic arrived in Manchester in 2016 as a free agent seemingly well into the autumn of his career.

However, the domestic league winner in four different countries showed the Premier League exactly what they had been missing over the previous 15 years.

While with Man Utd, Ibrahimovic notched 28 goals from 46 appearances in a debut season that added three more trophies to the club’s lengthy list of honours.

A devastating knee injury curtailed much of his second season, but Shaw has now revealed the extent of the impact Ibrahimovic had at Old Trafford in such a short space of time.

“He was mad,” Shaw said on a Combat Corona Twitch FIFA competion (via the Mirror).

“I think he was what we needed in the dressing room.

“He’s unbelievable, he still had the talent and even though he was a bit older he was still the amazing player that he had been.

“But I think inside the dressing room he was great. He had a lot of jokes but I think when it got serious, and when he had to sort of put his foot down, you knew about it.”

“I think he was a born winner. Even in little training games, if he didn’t win and you were on his team he would absolutely kill you.

“So I think he got the best out of everyone when he was there, as in training-wise, because people couldn’t sort of [slack] off kind of because if you’re on his team and you lose, you’re dead.

“And honestly you can ask anyone in the team, that was the situation. But I think everyone loved him and it was just disappointing that he got that bad injury.”

Meanwhile, Man Utd could be left with a difficult financial pill to swallow after the latest report stated a club high earner is  ‘reluctant’ to accept a pay cut in order to facilitate his departure from Old Trafford.
