Manchester United have done a deal to finally sign a big-name striker, while Manchester City are close to bringing in a Barcelona full-back, according to Thursday’s Euro Paper Talk.
MAN UTD CLOSE IN ON BIG-NAME STRIKER DEAL
Manchester United have intensified their efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani and are ready to offer a bumper wage deal to get their man.
That’s according to Spanish website Todofichajes, who claim that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently already holding negotiations with the Uruguayan frontman’s representatives.
The 33-year-old’s current deal with PSG expires at the end of June, meaning he will become a free agent and be able to demand a hefty signing-on fee.
The report adds that the Old Trafford club are prepared to make Cavani one the Premier League’s ‘highest paid players’ and that an ‘agreement’ could be reached in the coming weeks.
Solskjaer has been in the hunt for a new No.9 since selling Romelu Lukaku last summer and while Odion Ighalo has performed well since his loan switch from the Chinese Super League, it is unclear whether that will be turned into a permanent deal.
The likes of Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Tottenham talisman Harry Kane have been mentioned as potential options for Solskjaer, but both will come with large price tags – particularly the latter – while Cavani will not cost a penny in transfer fees.
Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho remains United’s main target this summer, but he is viewed as a solution to the club’s right-sided attacking role and there remain a need for a central option, one that Cavani looks like he could be about to fill.
