Umtiti has failed to live up to expectations in Spain after being beset by injury issues since his 2016 switch from Lyon. Koulibaly, on the other hand, has flourished into one of European football’s top centre-backs during his time in Italy and is currently valued at €85million. However, with Champions League football looking unlikely for Napoli next term, they will need to balance their books and could sell some of their top stars – including Koulibaly, with Umtiti considered a more affordable option. That news is sure to alert Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is desperate to pair the Senegal international with record signing Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s defence.
